Hi there! I'm Pau. I'm an independent filmmaker and curator with a focus on documentary and non-fiction narratives. I instill a distinct poetic voice to directing, editing, sound design and color grading. Gravitating toward stories about community, collectiveness, and the threats to our natural state of togetherness, I stand for ethics in storytelling. My work includes a self-published poetry anthology, a manifesto about alternative identities, an interactive online narrative, and short films from experimental to documentary. I am the co-creator of a National Geographic-funded storytelling lab for young Mexican women in association with Girl Up Mexico and Ambulante, and have been a juror and curator for the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival.

I believe in the power of the arts as tools for social justice, and that the only hope for survival we have as the human species is empathy. I make it my life's work to create stories that unite, that show compassion alongside courage, and that reveal that all human emotions are to be listened to if we want to grow together rather than apart. This is what I want to show through my work with color grading, editing and sound post production.

To me, editing is poetry. It is writing with rhythm and weaving with movement. There is no other area of filmmaking that has the power of creation intrinsic to the moving image than that of editing. A movie is the edit, and I will defend this thesis with all my passion.

Color in film is like the tone of a voice, or the difference it makes when the same melody is played by a violin instead of a piano. We are swayed by light, hues and textures in the same way we might me influenced by dreams, it is a beautiful dance with our subconscious that if done well can bewitch the heart and entrance the mind.

Finally, sound is the closest thing we have to magic. When you hear a lion's roar in the sound of a thunder, it is a fantasy, but the emotions it illicits are real. Our primal instincts are attuned to sound, and this is why sound is the best tool to direct emotions.
